33 Jícaras de Mezcal

$6.00

33 Whiskeys fits perfectly in a jeans pocketPocket-Sized, Yet Powerful

33 Mezcals is a mezcal journal that provides an easy way to quickly record mezcal tasting notes in a small, convenient notebook format. It's thinner than an iPhone and easily fits in a back pocket.

It's the perfect gift for mezcal nerds, agave lovers, spirit dorks and other fans of the mezcalero's art. And if you're wondering, yes, I do have a tequila journal, too!

While the title is en español, this book is designed for English-language use.

A Collaboration with Tess Rose Lampert

Some drinks have what I call the "college problem.*" That is, "I tried that in college once and got really sick." Mezcal (and its little brother, Tequila**) suffer from this issue. Thankfully, I was introduced to Tess Rose Lampert, who has made a convert of this skeptic. This will be no surprise to those who follow Tess on Instagram, where she's constantly posting drool-worthy spirits she tastes as part of her mezcal education, writing and judging work in New York City and abroad. Her passion for agave-based spirit won me over, and we are pleased to debut this new work which celebrates Mexico's finest drink.

Designed for Speed

It’s tough to hold a notepad in one hand, a pencil in the other, and have another hand left for your glass. Taking notes with 33 Mezcals is as simple as checking a few boxes and entering a few basic facts.

Mezcal Flavor Wheel

The flavor wheel in 33 Mezcals can be used to quickly recall a mezcal's unique flavor long after consumption. For low values of the flavor, fill in dots near the wheel’s center. A raicilla from the coast of Jalisco made from 12-plus-year-old amarillo and verde agaves, double-distilled first in steel, then in copper pot stills, was used for this tasting.

Secret Ingredient

A teeny, tiny amount of real mezcal is added to the ink in each new edition, which is cryptically noted on the back.

Eco-Friendly

33 Mezcals is made with 100% recycled papers sourced in the Pacific Northwest. Interior pages are 100% post-consumer recycled content and covers are 85% post-consumer recycled content and 15% recycled content. The booklets are printed using US-grown soy-based inks in sunny Portland, Oregon. A teeny, tiny amount of mezcal is added to the ink in each edition, cryptically noted on the back.

* See also r(h)um, whisk(e)y and mead. This last one is particularly sad because most people's first and only exposure to mead is through a friend who himself was making it for the first time. The first one I made was awful - I can almost guarantee your friend's was, too. You should know that there are some really great ones available ... but I digress.

** Tequila is a kind of mezcal, one made only from blue agave, and only in five particular Mexican states. Mezcal is a broader category of spirit, which can be made from many different agave species, in nine particular states. There is some overlap.
