This saké journal is designed for ease of use. It’s tough to hold a notepad in one hand, a pencil in the other, and have another hand left for your rice wine. Taking notes with 33 Cups of Saké is as simple as checking a few boxes and entering a few basic facts.

Saké Flavor Wheel from 33 Cups of Sake Journal

The flavor wheel in 33 Cups of Saké can be used to quickly recall a saké's unique flavor long after consumption. For low values of the flavor, fill in dots near the wheel’s center. A Junmai Ginjo from Hiroshima is used in the example shown.

A Collaboration with Julie Qiu

Superfans of 33 Books Co. and/or oysters may recognize Julie's name from another journal, 33 Oysters. Turns out, Julie is nearly as passionate about saké as she is about oysters, and when she approached me with the idea for a saké journal, I couldn't say no. 

33 Nihonshu Calligraphy by Soyamax!

@Soyamax did such an awesome job with the calligraphy for my Japanese whisky journal, I asked him to do some similar calligraphy for the front of my saké journal, or "nihonshu journal," as you might say in Tokyo.

Secret Ingredient

A teeny, tiny amount of real saké is added to the ink in each new edition of my saké journal, which is cryptically noted on the back.


33 Cups of Saké is made with 100% recycled papers sourced in the Pacific Northwest. Interior pages are 100% post-consumer recycled content and covers are 85% post-consumer recycled content and 15% recycled content. The booklets are printed using US-grown soy-based inks (and a little bit of saké) in sunny Portland, Oregon.
